The exercise marked the end of a year`s intensive training for the British cadets and was the final test before they go on to receive officer commissions into the British Army.

The Commandant of Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Major General Patrick Marriott, said:

"The current main effort of the British Army is to support the Government`s commitment to operations overseas. The academy trains officers to enable them to take command of soldiers both on and off operational duties.

"The culmination of the commissioning course is Exercise Dynamic Victory, a ten-day exercise that sought to include everything that the Officer Cadets have learnt over the past year.

"In the past the training has been held in various locations overseas. However, in order to focus on the present operational climate and include live-firing training, it was decided to find an area in the UK that would suit our needs and the Dumfries and Galloway training areas met these requirements perfectly."

The British Officer Cadets were joined by a detachment of American Officer Cadets from West Point Military Academy as both the UK and the United States, who are operating together in Afghanistan, gain real benefits from joint training exercises.
